Retired U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Wil Whiteman served in United States Navy for over 25
years (1994-2019) as an enlisted member, Naval Aviator, and Naval Intelligence Officer. Senior Officer
tours included serving as a U.S. Diplomat to the Canadian government as the Director of Operations
for the Canadian Forces Intelligence Group, as Commanding Officer, Naval Information Dominance
Corps Mid-Atlantic, and various carrier-based strike-fighter squadrons and air wings. He completed
multiple combat deployments worldwide in support of Combined, Joint, and Naval Special Warfare
units. Qualified as a Naval Information Warfare Officer, Naval Aviator, Navy Enlisted Warfare
Specialist, Naval Parachutist, and Master Training Specialist. He has served as President, Naval
Intelligence Professionals, as Executive Board Member for the Armed Forces Communications and
Electronics Association, and Executive Board Member for Leashes of Valor, a non-profit organization
providing service animals to post-9/11 veterans. Wil was awarded the 1999 Hawaii Sea Sailor of the
Year, 2002 Officer Candidate School Honor Graduate, 2009 Fleet Intelligence Instructor of the Year
and 2016 U.S. Naval Intelligence Officer of the Year. Additionally, Wil is the recipient of the Bronze
Star Medal (with V device), two Purple Heart Medals, two Defense Meritorious Service Medals (with
Remote device), five Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals (with Combat device), seven
Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and other various personal, unit and campaign awards.
He is the first U.S. Naval Intelligence Officer to receive two Purple Heart Medals for wounds received
in combat since the Vietnam War. Wil and his family currently reside in central Maryland with his
service animal, Typhoon.
